there's a lighthouse keeper in the lonely night
as the waves come crashing on the shore, on the shore
and the lighthouse keeper sits alone 'til the dawn
in his solitary joy

he spends his days asleep but wakes in time for family
to come home and spend a little time
and though he loves this time
he always seems to calm his mind
watching the coastline in the night

he's awake to hear the whistle of the late night train
but hears nothing of the school's morning bell
