as I spoke prematurely I didn't waste time so I ask for your forgiveness if you would be so kind your mercy is the key to my peace of mind for I know what I've done and wish to leave this all behind for I was wrong yes I was wrong you drowned because of me in weeping and in longing forgive me now I plea for I was wrong I know you are strong enough to weather this storm but it still hurts my heart that I could take away yours how could I divide you make you broken and torn then again I cannot be a rose without thorns for I was wrong yes I was wrong you drowned because of me in weeping and in longing forgive me now I plea for I was wrong let the river swallow my heart (let the river flow) let the river swallow my heart (let my conscience show) let the river swallow my heart (let our hearts be whole) let the river swallow my heart (let me see what’s good) so was I wrong was I really wrong I did nothing for myself so was I still wrong and if it happened all again would I still act the same would I still take this from your hand or would I walk away

the monsters in my mind whisper from my windowsill they show me all the places that they've seen loneliness and treachery the pits of hell and deepest seas exploring all the spaces in between in your garden the truth may grow and yet you nourish the lies friend, the one that you choose to water will be the one that thrives in your weary hours when dark and cold and chained within the sun shines through a cloud of darkest grey though rain helps you to grow I know you cannot see it now you will when pain and darkness flee away in your garden the truth may grow and yet you nourish the lies friend, the one that you choose to water will be the one that thrives and they've only dragged you down but it only makes you stronger for in darkness you fought for light and it only makes you wiser for in blindness you found your sight you may be content now for you've found your peace of mind despite the monsters in your mind Oh, oh oh oh Oh, oh oh oh x3 in your garden the truth may grow and yet you nourish the lies friend, the one that you choose to water will be the one that thrives It will be, the one, that thrives.

there's a lighthouse keeper in the lonely night as the waves come crashing on the shore, on the shore and the lighthouse keeper sits alone 'til the dawn in his solitary joy he spends his days asleep but wakes in time for family to come home and spend a little time and though he loves this time he always seems to calm his mind watching the coastline in the night he's awake to hear the whistle of the late night train but hears nothing of the school's morning bell if happiness is found in light the tow’r that brightens up the night is happiness as far as he can tell if happiness is found in light the tow’r that brightens up the night is happiness as far as he can tell

a day in July, she asks for advice maybe she should run and hide she’s looking at you, hoping you’re true hanging on strings she stays It’s harder and harder to leave as the August sun shines through the trees you’re being brave, as she shies away you’ll follow wherever she leads you cherishing June, cherishing you friends becoming lovers the sun awakes, and she watches your gaze you travel through the waters September repairs all wounds shattered glass on the floor has been swept out the room you’d hoped all this time that you’d make it through you both see in colour in a hospital gown and woollen socks she knew she was in love as snow fell she knew it well it wasn’t ’til May that she told you cherishing June, cherishing you friends becoming lovers the sun awakes, and she watches your gaze you travel through the waters though April brought no rain the things that it grew were the most beautiful good things for those who wait you stayed through the seasons of wealth and of pain cherishing June, cherishing you friends becoming lovers the sun awakes, she watches your gaze you travel through the waters cherishing June, cherishing you friends becoming lovers the sun awakes, and she watches your gaze you travel through the waters you travel through the waters together you travel the waters

Wild 02:25
a man from Kingston taught a lesson about living to dance the path you walk to love the earth and all around but if all I ever learn from love is how to love this soul's been given me then that's enough if you will or won't excuse me I will be wild I will be wild I will promise myself to always stay wild deeply madly passionately wild I build up homes in a temporary town you burn them down you burn them down but I won't settle I will be all that I am and I will move and run and live and all that this earth has to give I'll grasp in my young hands if you will or won't excuse me I will be wild I will be wild I will promise myself to always stay wild deeply madly passionately wild I will be deeply madly passionately wild

Home Grown 02:57
may the beat of your drum match the beat of your pulse so close, so close to your skin may you dance with the trees and the lakes and the bees finding purpose in each step grow your roots in the soil of the land of your birth be baptized in the waters where you learned to swim climb the mountains close to home so that the earth you'll see below's the ground in which you played on as a child in the years when you were endlessly wild alleluia, praise the forests we were wolves in alleluia, praise the skies under we danced alleluia, praise the creeks we thought were rivers wide as we crossed on to the other side so powerful, in love with life grow your roots in the soil of the land of your birth be baptized in the waters where you learned to swim climb the mountains close to home so that the earth you'll see below's the land where you have blossomed, grown every year grown taller every day grown wiser every second grown older than you were before raise your hands to the sky you played under as a child and touch the ground that's raised you high each summer sky, the love of my life my soul finds peace with you

New World 03:52
looking, looking for someplace to escape, escape where the world has shifted its weight, to where, I want to stand proud of who I am turning into firm feet on this solid ground and I sing and I shout I am not ashamed of the places I’ve been or the things I have done or the woman that I have become and I will stand against the land that treats me wrong my soul will learn to dance on the rooftops and the mountains and surely we’ll romance ideas of living in the new world that we found I will find a place that knows my worth, my name that plants a seed of strength in me and cherishes these bones and knows I am not alone in this power I stand we will sing we will shout I am not ashamed of the places I’ve been or the things I have done or the woman that I have become and I will stand against the land that treats me wrong my soul will learn to dance on the rooftops and the mountains and surely we’ll romance ideas of living in the new world that we found the house that I’ve built in myself is the best home that I have ever known the house that I’ve built in myself is the best home that I have ever known my soul will learn to dance on the rooftops and the mountains and surely we’ll romance ideas of living in the new world that we surely we'll romance ideas of living in the new world that we surely we'll romance ideas of living in the new world that we found

set in stone the moments we called our own the moments so dear to us that we can't imagine anywhere else and we sing and we shower ourselves in the glory of our youth and we grew we grew up taller than the willows in the forests we roamed when we were young and never would get so old can you believe all the time that we spent running around like we were children can you believe all the moments we spent on our own learning to grow can you believe all the days that we spent wishing we were older than children can you believe all the nights that we wasted sitting up late and the mornings that tasted like home home home

about

About The Album:

The Garden is very much a coming of age: it is about growing towards knowing who you are, as well as choosing who you are going to be. It is about ideas of finding justice and equality and love and peace, on this earth or the next. It is about growing up. It is about the strong emotions you feel as you live and experience this life. It is about guilt, hope, joy, love, freedom, gratitude, strength, perseverance, and growth. It is about cherishing the memories you have and the moments you live as you live them - something I am still continually learning to do. It is about the garden that exists in your soul that is ever growing - and choosing how to water it.

Please don’t water your weeds; water your ambitions and the passions of your heart, as those will bloom into the most beautiful flowers that you have grown yet. Over the years I have spent writing for this album I strongly feel that I have grown and changed significantly as a human on this earth, and as I carry forward and live this life I will commit to continuing to grow. I invite you to continue growing with me.

THANKS YOUS:

Thank you to my family for always encouraging me to love music and for coming to every recital and choir concert.
Thank you to my parents for always having music in our home and for continuing to buy me instruments despite my tendency to never practice.
Thank you Dieta for working with me to shape the skeletons of songs I brought into your home to become everything I envisioned and more, and for being my musical proof-reader/editor. Thank you to baby Raina for being so patient while I borrowed your mama.
Thank you to Kerry, Dieta, Brendan, Brennan, Evan, Sabrina, Stephanie, Caeleigh, Danika, and Astrid - all the musicians who have brought this album to life. Listening to the songs that I've heard only in my head be played by people who were excited to play them is a euphoria I cannot possibly describe. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you to Daniel for inspiring me to write about how life is a garden.
Thank you Andrew and James at the foundation for allowing us to use your studio space so freely.
Thank you Alexa for creating the visuals for this album. You have beautifully captured my vision for this project. Thank you for all of your time and work and patience with me as I've worked and reworked my vision.
Thank you most significantly to Brendan Aaron. Without you none of this would even be possible for me. Thank you for your encouragement to pursue this project that I had held in my heart for so long - believing it would never come to fruition. Thank you for every single moment you spent in the studio with me; I know many of those days were long and exhausting - thank you for pushing through and allowing me to create what I needed to create. Thank you for the time you have spent mixing and mastering these tracks - over the past year you have truly given as much to this album as I have - that is not lost on me. Thank you. Thank you most of all for being my partner, my greatest supporter, and my closest friend. This album would not in any way be possible without you. Thank you with all of my heart.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this project directly and indirectly. I have been incredibly fortunate to receive so much support from those around me. Thank you all.
